Dr. John Petersen, Chairman of the Board, Research Coordinator
John Petersen is one of Lucid's co-founders, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies and Biology and Director of Oberlin College’s Environmental Studies Program. He also serves as Chairman of the Board and Research Coordinator at Lucid Design Group. A systems ecologist by training, Dr. Petersen's research focuses on quantifying flows of energy, cycles of matter and feedback as a control agent influencing the development of complex systems. A major thrust of his current research and work with Lucid focused on the use of real-time feedback on the environmental performance of buildings as a mechanism for engaging, educating, motivating and empowering communities of building users to conserve resource use. John holds a BA from Oberlin College, an MFS from Yale University and a PhD from University of Maryland.
Peter Rogers
Peter Rogers is a founder of Dry Creek Ventures. After receiving a BA from UC Berkeley and an MBA from New York University, Peter spent 25 years in technology investment banking, most of that time with Robertson Stephens and Bear Stearns, where he specialized in computer hardware and software. Peter has extensive research and corporate finance experience, and was a member of the teams that took many leading technology companies public. Peter is a member of the board of directors of the Sonoma Land Trust and the Conservation Strategy Fund.
David Smith
David Smith is a founder of Dry Creek Ventures. After graduating from Hofstra University and pursuing a successful real estate career, David co-founded in 1989 Magic Quest, an educational software company that was later acquired. He was also an early investor in and board member of ImproveNet, which went public in 2000. David also has extensive experience in managing non-profit organizations; he was a founder of the Beyond War Foundation in 1988 and is a past Chairman of the Sonoma Land Trust, where he remains a board member.
Zarko Draganic
Zarko is a successful entepreneur with 25 years of experience in the technology sector. His experience spans several startups, as well as larger firms including Apple and Nortel. Zarko is the former CEO of AltoCom Inc., a modem startup he built to profitability, and later sold to Broadcom Corp. His interests shifted to green tech, and applying communications technology and engineering to environmental sustainability. He enjoys investing and advising startup companies, while keeping an active hand promoting energy conservation. Zarko is a PE who has qualified buildings for EPA Energy Star. He holds an MS from Stanford University and a BSc from the University of Waterloo, Canada, in electrical engineering and computer science. He is a member of IEEE and holds several U.S. and international patents.
Michael Murray, CEO
Michael is one of Lucid's co-founders and has led the company since its inception in 2004, creating important alliances and relationships with universities, strategic partners and technical solution partners, and has managed the company's sales and installations nationwide. A LEED® Accredited Professional, he has years of experience working with metering and building automation systems. Prior to joining Lucid, Michael specialized in Ecological Footprint applications for governments, non-profits and corporations with Global Footprint Network. His work included environmental assessments of electric utilities, commercial real-estate corporations, the Australian, British and Canadian governments, and numerous international non-governmental organizations. He has led original research evaluating payback of photovoltaics at the Lewis Center for Environmental Studies in Oberlin, Ohio. Michael holds a BA with highest honors in Environmental Studies from Oberlin College.
Vladi Shunturov, CTO
Vladi is one of Lucid's co-founders, and manages the product and technical teams that have developed Building Dashboard® from the ground up. He also works closely with the creative team to design and implement scalable, interactive user interfaces for Lucid's suite of products. Vladi's expertise in the Building Dashboard® back-end has driven development of core components of IRIS™, Lucid's robust data acquisition and management system. Prior to his time at Lucid, he designed, implemented and studied the behavioral effects of a ground-breaking wireless data monitoring and display system on building residents' resource consumption. A recipient of prestigious national awards, including from U.S. EPA and California Clean Tech Open, he has multiple publications and presentations in the domain of tracking and optimizing building occupant performance. Vladi holds a BA with high honors in Environmental Studies and Computer Science from Oberlin College.
