Over the past four years, Lucid's team of educators, software engineers and graphic artists has pioneered the concept of providing real-time, web-based resource use feedback to building occupants.
Our hosted software, called Building Dashboard®, bridges the disconnect between personal energy and water consumption and the actions and events that take place within buildings. Now in its third generation, Building Dashboard® is used by thousands of people to understand, manage and compare resource consumption on the web.
While breaking new ground with the first socially-contextualized, socially-comparative energy use information on the web, Lucid has continued to develop new and exciting ways of educating, motivating and empowering employees, students and homeowners to conserve resources and save money. So far, our team has demonstrated that real-time feedback can reduce consumption by between 10% and 56%.
Your car has a dashboard. Why not your building?
We spend 90% of our lives in buildings, yet we have little or no idea how much energy and water we consume at work, school and in our homes. Why do building occupants not receive feedback similar to what drivers of a car experience behind the wheel? With this question in mind, our team set out to make resource use visible, accessible and engaging to the public. To make feedback actionable and effective, we made this information visually compelling, put it on the web and carefully translated energy and water use into everyday terms that make sense to a non-technical audience.
Like any driver, we require real-time feedback to make smart decisions. Building Dashboard® helps occupants in commercial buildings, schools, apartments and single-family homes to optimize building performance by improving behavior.
Showcasing green buildings and innovative technologies
The value of green buildings and innovative technologies like solar photovoltaic panels and geothermal systems is maximized when feedback about their performance is readily visible and intuitive. Both our green building and non-green building customers derive significant value from Building Dashboard® including: education and research opportunities; increased visibility to the public and potential clients; enhanced capacity for maintenance, troubleshooting and commissioning; and credits toward LEED® certification.
We keep our carbon footprint as small as possible
Lucid Design Group offsets its corporate travel carbon footprint with Carbonfund.org. On an annual basis, Lucid calculates its airplane and vehicle travel footprint and offsets the associated CO2 emissions. Carbonfund.org in turn supports carbon-reducing projects globally. Our goal is to empower people to conserve resources and to be better environmental stewards of our planet. We believe that it is crucial for us to manage our company in a way that is consistent with the goals of our products.
