Lucid and Miami University enter California's GreenStop Competition
April 3, 2006
Oxford, OH - Today, Lucid Design Group, partnering with students and faculty from Miami University of Ohio's architecture school, submitted a design for the "GreenStop Design Competition." Coordinated by the California Department of Transportation, The Great Valley Center, the American Institute of Architects, California Council and others, the competition seeks creative architectural designs which create a self-sufficient, educational, off-the-grid roadside stop to be implemented in California's Central Valley. Submissions are required to address a broad scale of sustainability and interpretive issues, while also providing an image and identity reflecting the region of California's Central Valley.
Lucid/Miami University's design featured a customized version of Lucid's Building Dashboard® system. Inside the rest stop, visitors can interact with a large monitor displaying real-time information on solar panel output and water quality as it enters and exits a constructed wetland ecosystem for purification. The display also includes local and regional information which sets the context for the visitor to understand the unique features of California's Central Valley.
The winning entry will be implemented by the Department of Transportation on a site that currently accommodates 3 million travelers per year. According to competition organizers, the winning design will also be considered for other roadside stops throughout California.
