Lucid Design Group announces EPA ENERGY STAR® partnership
August 3, 2010
Washington, D.C. - Lucid Design Group today announced partnership with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Program. Lucid, an active Energy Star partner serving the commercial building market, uses its award-winning Building Dashboard® software to benchmark and improve the performance of buildings.
Building Dashboard collects real-time data on electricity, water, natural gas, solar and other resources from virtually all building automation systems and submeters. The information is presented on the web through Building Dashboard Network, the first social network for comparing and sharing building resource use data. Data can also be displayed on publicly-accessible touchscreen monitors using Building Dashboard Kiosk.
Lucid's partnership with Energy Star enables Building Dashboard to send historical consumption data to Energy Star's Portfolio Manager, where buildings can be automatically evaluated for Energy Star designation. One example is Southface, an Atlanta-based green building resource center, which continuously monitors the energy and water performance of its Eco Office using the Dashboard. The facility is fully instrumented to record electricity consumption, electricity produced on site through a solar photovoltaic array, gallons of water consumed and saved, current rainwater cistern levels and more.
"By tracking and displaying resource use with Energy Star and Building Dashboard, Southface is demonstrating that energy performance can be easily tracked and verified," said Michael Murray, CEO of Lucid Design Group.
Building Dashboard is used across the U.S. and abroad to motivate and empower employees to achieve energy reduction goals; engage students in energy reduction competitions; identify ways to improve the efficiency of buildings and save money on utility bills; and publicly demonstrate the commitment many forward-looking companies and institutions have made to sustainability.
Energy Star was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Products and buildings that have earned the Energy Star designation prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the government. In 2007, Americans, with the help of Energy Star, saved about $16 billion on their energy bills while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 27 million vehicles.

About Lucid
Founded in 2004, Lucid Design Group, Inc. ("Lucid") is a privately held cleantech software company and a pioneer in providing real-time information feedback to teach, inspire behavior change and save energy and water resources in buildings. Over the past seven years, Lucid's team has endeavored to make resource use visible, accessible and engaging so that building occupants have the data visualization and communication tools to manage and reduce their consumption.
Today, tens of thousands of people live and work in schools, companies, community and commercial buildings and homes enhanced by Lucid's web-based Building Dashboard® technology. Now in its fourth generation, the intuitive Building Dashboard® user interface allows occupants to connect personal electricity, water and natural gas consumption with the actions and events that take place within buildings.
