Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago debuts Smart Home exhibit with Building Dashboard®
May 14, 2008
Chicago, IL - The Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago debuts a Smart Home exhibit, inviting visitors to explore a real, three-story modular and sustainable "green" home in the Museum's own backyard. The home, conceived by Michelle Kaufmann Designs and built by All American Homes, forms the exhibit Smart Home: Green + Wired, which is open through January 4, 2009. From the exhibit website:
"Celebrating exciting new directions in sustainable living and spectacular, environmentally-friendly technology, Smart Home offers guests guided tours of the 2,500 square-foot home and grounds, located in a park on the east side of the Museum.
"The Smart Home leads a secret double life behind the wood and drywall. There's a digital nerve center built in to the home that works constantly and automatically to save homeowner's time, reduce energy consumption and life more fun and entertaining!
"With the help of key participant Wired magazine, you'll be introduced to some incredible "smart" technologies ... including an energy monitoring system [that] will track electricity and water usage on a real-time basis, giving homeowners a direct way to see the resources they're using by the day or week."
